How to be famous?, Monday, April 09, 2007
How to make a city-state like Singapore famous? "Use the force" ; Force of the architecture ! Like it or not, its going to happen. Anyhow, by now you should have seen (from reading my first entry) that long Steel Bridge designed and built by Arup for the city's Marina bay. I think Cox Rayner Architects (Australia) did some design for new downtown 2 and RI water front precinct. Today I'm just going to introduce some current and new buildings that will be up in the next couple of years and they will all be located within the water front precinct.
Singapore Esplanade
or
榴莲壳 (Durian Husk) - Completed
Of cos the locals had given these buildings a different name;
Singapore First Casino
or
拜神台 (Deity Altar) - Due in 2010
Singapore's New National Stadium
or
马桶盖 (Toilet Bowl Seat) - Due in 2009
My only hope is that this is not the final design for the national stadium.
So you see you should come visit Singapore after 2009 when these buildings are completed and I must give the credit to the gahmen for their effort in making a Uniquely Singapore. Indeed the city-State is going to become pretty interesting to visit.
Lastly, the London eye is coming to Singapore too. In fact you can now find the same eye in Malaysia and Australia too. Perhaps in the near future eye will be in every city and so the London eye will be a spectacle no more.
